S(tars) & M(agnets) Tour

"As always, his body sways, and sometimes dances while his eyes are closed during the whole performance. As always, there is that constant smile on his face. As always, he almost seems to be about to rush forward." -Amel

"This young man emits an extraordinary fragility every time he recites." -Marguerite Duplessis

"Seeing Devon perform at Spoken Word in Paris, It was easy to believe he was a performance poet. He had a way of delivering unlike any I had ever seen before. To begin with, he memorized every poem, So he was unencumbered by notebook or cellphone or page of any kind. Then, when reciting, the poetry moved through his whole body. his hands, thumb and index finger pressed together, would punctuate the air on accented syllables and important words, like a conductor indicated a section of an orchestra. He would sway, take half-steps forward and back, caught up in the rhythm and words of his poetry. Finally, what I found so great, was that his voice and style of delivery, Though apparently that of a performance poet, were very distinct from any slam poet I have ever heard. Slam, to my ear, can tend to start sounding the same; lines building to a well-timed crescendo before falling away to an equally well-timed slowing; sharp inhales of breath for added effect... etc. but, Devon's style was Devon, and did not fall into any of the slam poetry patterns. When I finally read some of his poetry on the page, I realized he was, actually, a page poet at heart--a poet for whom the physical shape of the poem, the punctuation, the spacing, the line breaks, stanza breaks, unorthodox use of parentheses, all played as important a role in the reading experience as the words themselves. It just so happens that his poems work well when read aloud, too, even though they are intended to be seen in their page form. His presence, his performances, and his poetry itself (tending towards the questioning of all things spiritual and cosmic, which i could connect with) were all quite a fine addition to the spoken word scene." -Evan Knight
